Alexander Ovechkin

The “Great Eight” Alexander Ovechkin joined the NHL during the season of 2005-2006 after being selected first overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Ovechkin scored 52 goals and added 54 assists for a total of 106 points over the 82 games he played for the Capitals on his way to winning the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s rookie of the year. Ovechkin’s impressive rookie season was just the beginning of what has been a remarkable career that includes multiple Hart Memorial Trophies as the NHL’s most valuable player, a Stanley Cup Championship in 2018. Ovechkin has since captivated many hockey fans in his search to pass Wayne Gretzky the “Great One” as the NHL’s all-time leading scorer at 894 career goals.

Known for his toothy grin and his exubarant celebrations after scoring, it’s no surprise that cards of Ovechkin are highly saught after by collectors of all ages. If Ovechkin can surpass that elusive goal scoring record it will cement his position as one of NHL’s greatest players and it will score any collector of his rookie cards a big increase in value.
